My cousin just became a Federal agent a few weeks back. He'll be policing on national reservations with the BIA, while he continues his training, and eventually he's moving on to border patrol or something like that.
Anyways one of the questions he was asked was interesting.
It was something like:
"What would you do, if you were presented with the apprehension and or pursuit of immediate family and loved ones."
He answered something like "If its not threatening the lives of others, or extreme in nature, I'd probably let them go."
It was a trick question in reality, as he got the job.
But you can see the mentality behind it. Honest.
What if you pulled over your wife or your mother, or even your child or encountered them in illegal activities? Who wouldn't entertain the idea of forgetting your position to help them, probably not many.
Law enforcement training is quite paramilitary these days.
PPCT Defensive Tactics is a good program and if you have the time and or money. Check it out.
Product: PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor
-EDIT- Turns out I gave the instructor link above, but it gives you the basic idea. The actual program is out there somewhere (lost the linkage) and they've got interesting field manuals. Well worth the time if a strong defensive is the goal.
