Question to be completed

Q2. Police officers often work in teams and it is important that you are able to work well with others, and are willing to share in the less attractive jobs.

Think of an occasion when it was necessary to work with others to get something done and where you played your part in getting a result. You will be assessed in this question on how well you co-operated with others in completing the task at hand.

Tell us what had to be done. (60 words)

How was it that you became involved? (40 words)

What did you do and what did others do? (170 words)

How was it decided how things were going to be done? (35 words)

What did you do to ensure the team were able to get the result they wanted? (40 words)

What benefit did you see for yourself in what you did (if any)? (25 words)

Re: Question to be completed

Were you in America all you'd be asked is your age, your weight, and how much of an ass you can be.

You forgot:

*How fast can you grow a slimeball mustache?

*How often can you stare down civilians on the sidewalk?

*Are you capable of harassing people who drink with open containers on the streets instead of arresting real criminals and solving real crimes?

*How often can you look like a pompous ass that is above the law?

I'm sure all of these are relevant. Though this is strictly an American variant.

This is the point where I'd think: "meh, never really wanted to be a cop anyway".

Re: Question to be completed

It's good they do those kinds of questions, as it at least makes the appearance that the police really want "good" recruits. But, at the same time, it opens up a lot of possibilities for bullshit.

Re: Question to be completed

You guys should try filling out an application to join a police department. It is long, tedious, and very hard to actually make it on the first go. Few rarely do. You also go through extensive psych evaluation and background checks. Any priors bigger than a traffic stop (and even then....) and you are automatically disqualified, unless quite a few years separate you between the incident.

My cousin just became a Federal agent a few weeks back. He'll be policing on national reservations with the BIA, while he continues his training, and eventually he's moving on to border patrol or something like that.

Anyways one of the questions he was asked was interesting.

It was something like:
"What would you do, if you were presented with the apprehension and or pursuit of immediate family and loved ones."

He answered something like "If its not threatening the lives of others, or extreme in nature, I'd probably let them go."

It was a trick question in reality, as he got the job.

But you can see the mentality behind it. Honest.

What if you pulled over your wife or your mother, or even your child or encountered them in illegal activities? Who wouldn't entertain the idea of forgetting your position to help them, probably not many.

Law enforcement training is quite paramilitary these days.
PPCT Defensive Tactics is a good program and if you have the time and or money. Check it out.

Product: PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor

-EDIT- Turns out I gave the instructor link above, but it gives you the basic idea. The actual program is out there somewhere (lost the linkage) and they've got interesting field manuals. Well worth the time if a strong defensive is the goal.

There's significant differences between Federal agents and your standard local and state police officers. The Federal agents, having greater responsibilities and a larger range of activities to deal with, would naturally need considerably more preparedness and the like, as opposed to our standard police units, which are progressively becoming nothing more than vigilante squadrons.
